The vocabulary of the first six months
Anyone arriving in Germany as a care professional has learned German – but not the language of the ward. Language courses cover neither the bedpan nor “b. B.”, and they do not explain how to say the very same thing once to the patient, once to a colleague and once to the doctor. It is exactly this gap that makes starting the job so hard.
PflegeMate is not a language course and not a dictionary. It is precisely that missing vocabulary – curated, illustrated, voiced and translated into your native language.
Important note: PflegeMate is a learning aid for nursing German. The app is not a medical reference and does not replace training, onboarding at work or checking with your team.
One term, three sentences
This is the heart of the app. For each of the 694 terms there are three genuine ward sentences – one for talking to the patient (formal, empathetic), one for a colleague (informal, ward slang) and one for reporting to the doctor (technical, brief). Together that is over 2,000 sentences, each one playable on its own.
Hear how it really sounds
Almost 2,800 recordings cover every term and every sentence, in a female and a male voice. Every word is spoken with its article – “die Rufanlage” – so that the grammatical gender is learned right along with it. Abbreviations are spoken the way they sound on the ward: “Zett-Enn-Ah” for the emergency department.
21 categories, sorted the way a ward thinks
Devices, care procedures, symptoms, body parts, medication, documentation, professional roles, everyday work – plus a category of its own for the abbreviations that no chart ever explains: ZNA, b. B., BTM, 1-0-1. Almost 700 learning illustrations make the terms easy to picture.

Translations and explanations are available in Polish, Turkish, Croatian/Serbian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Spanish, French, Chinese and English. Not just word for word – the technical term is explained in your native language.

Learn offline
All learning content sits on the device. The app works in the hospital basement, on the night shift and in flight mode. No account, no registration, no ads, no tracking – buy once, done. PflegeMate collects no personal data – notes and settings are stored only on your device. Only the optional voice search uses the device’s speech recognition: on iPhone and iPad it runs entirely on the device; on Android it may use Google’s service, depending on the device.
Who is PflegeMate for?
For international care professionals during their first months in Germany – from preparation back home through recognition of qualifications and onto the ward. Practice instructors and language schools with nursing courses can recommend it as a companion. It also helps German trainees with abbreviations and reporting to doctors.
